P. 8

I would like to wish everybody a Happy New Year and I hope you all had a great holiday season. Met- ro had a great year and we have grown to over 3200 mem- bers. Just to recap we had some amaz- ing events. The Sec- ond Annual Metro Member Day at the Mansion was a suc- cess. We added live music since the first event and it was a
great addition. One hundred and thirty people attended the BBQ and pool party and the staff at the Glen Cove Mansion did a great job of making us feel at home. WE had our first wing night and this is something we will continue during the upcoming year.
Our Holiday Party was one for the record books. With 230 plus attendees, a photo booth, face painter, DJ and visit from Santa Clause, peo- ple will be talking about this for a long time. I would like to thank Larry Goldberg for plan- ning the event. I am sure everyone will agree it was a great afternoon. Also joining us was our chosen charity, the Songs of Love Foun- dation. This foundation writes original songs for children facing tough medical, physical or emotional issues free of charge. The names of the children are not just inserted into a pre- made song, the songs are written by songwrit- ers and are personalized for each child with details about their life including hobbies, family members, friends, likes, etc.
The high point of the Holiday Party was when we got to be part of a song written for Lilly, an 8-year-old girl with epilepsy who loves cats, chicken nuggets and her service dog Isabella. Song sheets were handed out, everybody was called to the dance floor where mics were set up, we rehearsed a few times then recorded it. It was such a great feeling to be a part of this.
You can view the video on the club website. On another note, I would like to thank Rich Smith and Larry Goldberg for their dedicated service to the club in their positions of trea- surer and secretary, respectively. They have both been an asset to the club and their input and guidance will be missed. Subsequently, I wouldliketowelcometothetreasurerposition, Tommy Rendano and to the secretary position, Ed Reiner. I am looking forward to working with both gentlemen as well as John Orrico, returning Vice President.
So now it’s 2019 and we are approaching the start of the season. The DE, Autocross, Concours, and Rally schedules are set. The New Member Meeting, Member Day BBQ/Pool Party at the Mansion, Election Meeting and Holiday Party are all being planned as well as other social events. As mentioned previously, look for Metro NY PCA Wing Nights among other social events. We are also looking into the possibility of a Golf Outing. Additionally, we are thrilled to be having our first Concours in Westchester and we are hoping to get par- ticipants from all over the region.
I know you’ve heard me say this before but a club is only as good as its members. If you have any suggestion for an event, please do not hesitate to contact me with your ideas. Also, if you would like to volunteer to help out drop me a line. We are always looking for vol- unteers.
Please watch the Website (www.metronypca. org) and join our Facebook group (www.face- to get up to date information regarding club activites. Get involved, you won’t regret it. I hope to see you all out there.
