 Rally for Fun

It is simply amazing that we, as Metro PCA members, have access to so many fantastic events. I try to attend as many as I can, and I am never disappointed. On June 21st we made the easy journey to Pepe Porsche for “Super Car” Night. The cars were Super: Panamera Turbo, 911 Turbo Executive, GT 2, 918, and
a few incredible early 911’s. This event is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. While view- ing the cars we enjoyed an open bar, gourmet small plates and passed appetizers while mak- ing new friends. Habitat for Humanity staged a Silent Auction and accepted donations in ex- cess of $10K. Thank you Pepe Group for your exceptional hospitality.
On June 28 we participated in the Autobahn Nite in Oyster Bay sponsored by Classic Car Showcase and the Oyster Bay Main Street As- sociation. I had never been to the weekly car nights in Oyster Bay but have favorite restau- rants on Main Street that we occasionally visit.
Classic Car Showcase presented yet another “Super Car” event. A gaggle of McLarens, doz- ens of Ferraris of all types (mostly new mod- els), Mercedes, BMW and of course the best Porsches imaginable. Dinner at Canterbury’s was great. Oyster Bay Brewery had a great as- sortment of craft beers, but I digress. To finish off the month of June on Saturday June 30th a “Cars and Coffee” was held at the Metro Office in Melville. Over 25 Porsches graced the park- ing lot. We renewed friendships and told tall tales. What a fun, low pressure event it was. Thanks to the board (Larry aka Madam) for hosting the event. Auto Sport Design is hosting a Cars and Coffee event the morning of Satur- day, July 14th followed by a Concours Judging workshop. If you would like to find out what is
required to be a Car Show Judge this is your opportunity to learn the skills. (Don’t tell anyone I told you but if you are considering entering your car in a show this work shop will explain exactly what the judges are looking for when they examine the cars). Many have registered for the Vintage Rally which will be run on Sun- day, July 15th (about the time this issue will be out). Watch for a full report in the August edi- tion of the Post.
July 27th and 28th are the dates for the Zone
1 Weekend. The Porsche Club of America is make up of 14 Zones with 145 local Regions across the US and Canada. Zone 1 has 17 Regions including New Jersey, New York, all
of New England, and Eastern Canada. It cov- ers the largest area in all of PCA. The Zone 1 Weekend is an annual event inviting members from all 17 Regions to attend. We, in Metro PCA, have the honor of hosting it this year. On Saturday there will be a Gimmick Rally to start the weekend festivities. The Rally will explore the rich history of the Town of Huntington Long Island since it was first settled in 1653. Starting at the host hotel we will pass the highest point on Long Island and visit some of the 8 town beaches and harbors. Questions will be asked about things you may see (or may not see) as you are directed over the 2 hour course. Keep watch for future events and try to attend as many as you are able. You will not be disap- pointed.
See you there,
Rich Moores - Rally Master
